NaPoWriMo #9

I sit in an office
with a painted family big
as the landscape
smiling              not really smiling
down
two apples at their feet
one bitten, one whole

I want to feel whole
want to feel abundant
as painted apples falling
― watch out! ― behind
the painted son’s head.

The puffy painted dog
(is that a dog?)
in a red sweater smiles     sticks out a tongue
the secret and the red snake
― unwelcome blood, old friend ―
over the painted mother’s head.

I wait in the office
with a painted family big
an apple behind my head.
