NaPoWriMo #7

It isn’t beautiful
or meaningful,
but it keeps the tummies full.
There I go slipping into mediocrity
like the wealthy stereotype slips
into a brand-new gown
a sea of sparkling sequins,
ready to put on a show
in the back row.
Like a ghost I wander
do my job
try
to avoid the social cues
so as not to
so as not to bring
so as not to bring everyone
so as not to bring everyone down
to my level
and misery.
