Happy National Poetry Month! To celebrate, I am offering the e-book of my poetry book Sore: fantasies and inhibitions for FREE starting tonight at midnight PST until midnight PST April 3. Get it here!
Today also marks the start of NaPoWriMo 2015. I actually used the NaPoWriMo prompt today. Here is my first poem:
I like to see you wear
It is not pants, the fabric binding legs too tightly or loosely mocking
the strong hush-a of skin or flaunting
the trendy notion of some well-off, out-of-touch nose in the air
in NYC, L.A., Milan
or descending to rough boots of violently carved animal skin
or deigning to unbutton a top-drawer to anyone’s desire.
It is not a skirt ─and you’ll get cut if you say it─
lowering and rising at the sound of shuffling bills
or flowering out, a rainbow swirl, around dancers’ feet
moving across the floor
or strapping in the hips hidden so as not to tempt
or corseting the work day for a less-than-equal pay.
It is simple and historic, a tradition to be bare
a source of pride and allegation
a freedom most men refuse to bear
and, all the same, my heart will pound
to see you wear it out today
to hear your breath quiver and gasp
with my hand beneath your kilt.
